ALCOA-KOFEM names Tekna as supplier for new machining centers

Szekesfehervar, Hungary & Crystal Lake, IL — February 7, 2005 — ALCOA-KOFEM, a division of the world’s leading producer and manager of primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum and alumina facilities, purchased six new Tekna machining centers adding to the four it already possesses.  All are four-axis capacity machines.  One of the original machines is equipped with two independently working gantries and measures over forty feet in length.   One of the new machines will be dedicated to the machining of Ferrari chassis.  The installation of this new lot of machining centers took place in January 2005 and has enabled Alcoa to double production capacity at its ALCOA-KOFEM facility.

“We are proud that Alcoa has confirmed its confidence in Tekna with this second order.“ says Tekna’s President, Giancarlo Maina.  “Such decisions are made based on actual experience with the machinery, not sophisticated marketing and sales efforts.  We think this supports our conviction that Tekna machines offer unsurpassed reliability and value.”

No newcomer to the machine tools market, Tekna has over forty years experience developing machinery for fabrication.  Since entering the CNC market in the early 1990’s, Tekna has sold over nine-hundred CNC machining centers worldwide to companies that process materials like extruded aluminum, mild steel, plastics and composite panels.  Their machining centers vary in size from twelve feet to a remarkable seventy-seven feet and have been used to fabricate a wide variety of products ranging from window and door frames to structural paneling for high speed trains.

Kyle Hendrickson, VP of Tekna’s North American operations provides an insight to one of the reasons for his company’s success.  “In today’s machine tool market, it is the companies that provide value-added pre-sales and after-sales support that are realizing success.  It is no longer sufficient to simply provide a quality product at a competitive price.  Customers are looking for comprehensive long-term relationships with the producers of their equipment.  Assistance with design, engineering and production optimization are just a few things that we have found are important to our customers—and we enjoy providing them.”

Tekna’s North American offices and showroom are centrally located 45 miles Northwest of downtown Chicago in Crystal Lake, IL.
